Doddington WI enjoyed a talk about the local history of Suffolk.

Natalie Jolly, vice-president, and Gemma Watts read the minutes of the June meeting while Sally Shortland gave a report of her visit to the NFWI annual meeting in Brighton.

The speaker for the evening was Pip Wright who has written many books about the local history of Suffolk.

He has studied the many parish and other records in the Suffolk Record Office which were lost over the years but Pip Wright had managed to put the clues together and had conjured up the stories based on fact.

Margaret Playford gave the vote of thanks.

Refreshments were served by Celeste Bushnell helped by Aimee Bell.

Natalie Jolly was the winner of the competition with a saddle made of leather.

Raffle winners were Sally Graham, Natasha Apps, Gemma Watts, Sheila Barlow, Celeste Bushnell, Suzanne Tucker and Anthea Branmer.

Next month’s meeting will have a talk by Derek Harris called Up the Cut - a night about canals in word and song.

The competition will be for something interesting made of metal.
