A look at what life was like in our villages back in 1905- A COMMITTEE meeting of Wimblington Parish Council took place on Thursday to arrange for the purchase of the site for the proposed parish room, the outcome of the Coronation Memorial.Estimates are to be got out at once, and plans are prepared. It is expected that the parish room will be completed by the summer. The site, on property belonging to the Rev Joseph Hill, is situated in the centre of the village.- WE understand the new vicar of Coldham is the Rev W E Rigby, rector of Pidley, Hunts, and formerly curate of Chatteris.Coldham is an ecclesiastical parish formed in 1874 from Friday Bridge in the civil parish of Elm in the Rural Deanery of Wisbech.The Church of St Etheldreda was completed in 1876 at a cost of £2,700. A memorial window was erected at the east end in 1887 at a cost of £120 to Samuel Jones Loyd, Baron of Overstone, a benefactor to the church. The net yearly value of the living is £175 with residence in the gift of the Crown and the Bishop of Ely alternately.- ON Sunday George Oldfield was on the Wash with his gun when he noticed something moving in an unusual manner in Whittlesey Dyke and discharged his gun several times at it. Failing to kill it, he set about snaring it, and eventually brought a fine salmon to land which was found to weigh about 7lbs.- A MEETING of Manea Sick and Divided Club was held for the first time since the institution of the club six months ago, accounts were presented and passed. The amount to be divided was returned as bonus of the rate of 10s per member out of 13s paid in, excepting in the case of members who had been on the doctor's books, in which case 3s was deducted from the bonus. All villagers may become members on application to Mr W Gorham, from whom all particulars may be obtained.
