Footage has emerged this morning of yet another lorry attempting the mini-roundabout on Wisbech Road, March, where a telegraph pole was knocked down less than 24 hours ago.
The mobile phone video shows a white and orange A2B Online articulated lorry struggling to turn from Norwood Road onto Wisbech Road in the exact same spot of the accident that happened yesterday afternoon.
The short clip has sparked debate on the local free discussion Facebook page, one person said: “It’s not exactly a big space to swing a lorry round in is it? Don’t get what’s the problem, things happen.”
Another added: “Lorries should go through industrial estate towards Tescos then over bridge. Ban all heavy vehicles on housing estate what are waiting for a child to be killed before action taken lazy driver.”
Police were called to the scene outside the Men of March pub at around 3pm yesterday (October 9) when a red haulage lorry from Eccles Van Lines smashed into a telephone pole, leaving it at an odd angle.
Yesterday’s lorry driver – who did not want to be named – said he “misinterpreted the corner” while he was “trying to turn around” on the mini-roundabout. He said that the BT post was “in a stupid place”.
At the time, a spokesman for Cambridgeshire Constabulary said: “Wisbech Road, March - Police are in attendance to a road traffic collision at the junction with Hundred Road, which is causing long tailbacks. Please avoid the area.”
Another person on social media said: “I like to think most people that drive lorries and large vehicles can use their common sense and judgement to drive safely.
“Obviously one couldn’t and that resulted in just missing two pedestrians and hitting electric pole.”
