Cakes, coffee and community spirit at March Macmillan Coffee Morning at Oliver Cromwell Hotel
Homemade cakes to rival the likes of The Great British Bake Off were up for grabs at The Oliver Cromwell Hotel in March for Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
Residents gathered at the venue in High Street to be part of the nationwide initiative this morning (September 28) to raise funds for those affected by cancer.
A raffle with a top prize of an overnight stay at the hotel was estimated to have brought in more than £1000 for the charity.
The lucky winner was set to be picked by Mayor of March Cllr Jan French.
Members of the March committee of Macmillan Cancer Support were on hand to mingle with guests while ladies from the March Mutual Interest Group dished out cakes and coffee.
Chocolate sponge, fudge, bakewell tarts, scones and carrot cake were on the menu.
Sue White, March Macmillan member, said: “The awareness raised this morning means so much, and more importantly, funds can be used to support people who are affected by cancer.”
Maureen Coker, from the Interest Group – who hold monthly activites for the elderly in the area - said: “Everyone has been touched by cancer and knows Macmillan in some way or another.
“You hope you may not need them, but you never know.”
