AN introduction to sports coaching course for girls and women in Fenland which was postponed in January will now be held on March 18 at the Neale-Wade Sports Centre, March.

The workshop, which is being run by Christine Sprowell of Sports Coach UK, is organised and funded by the Females in Recreation, Exercise, Sport & Health (FRESH).

Part of the council's sports and recreation equity programme, FRESH is a community-led sports action group, designed to promote, enhance and develop opportunities for women and girls to take part in sport and recreational activities.

The 'Come into Coaching' workshop will give an insight into the role of coach or assistant coach and will outline the local opportunities to get involved in coaching generally.

For those who wish to pursue their interest in coaching after the workshop, Christine will offer support with personal development planning sessions in April.

There is a £10 charge for the workshop, but this can be refunded in the form of vouchers for further coach development training.

Councillor Steve Garratt, portfolio holder for Sports, Leisure and Young People, said: "This is a thoroughly worthwhile initiative as it is very important that we encourage women and girls to participate in sports coaching."

There are 20 places available on the workshop and anyone interested in attending should contact Jodie Crane on 01353 654227 or e-mail her at Jodie.crane@eastcambsandfenland-pct.nhs.uk
