A new choir for local people who 'can't sing' has launched in March.

Having started in September 2016 thanks to a grant from Healthy Fenland, the choir was started to promote the health benefits of

singing, companionship and to gain new skills.

“Those people who enjoy singing in the shower, but who might feel their voice is not up to the level required to join a more formal choir, are particularly welcome,” said Tracy Larham, who set up the choir.

“On February 1 the choir was handed over to our own committee, the members of which are regular choir attendees.

“All members are encouraged to choose music and songs they like.”

The March Can’t Sing Choir meets weekly, every Wednesday at 6.30pm for a 6.45 start in the Trinity Hall, at the back of the Trinity Church, March PE15 9LH.

“As the name suggests, we are a non-audition community choir with little emphasis on being able to sing like a lark.

“We are a fun group - not a formal choir, and we’re open to everyone.

“Each week starts with a tuning up session, in which we sing exercises to develop breath control and pitch, as well as warming up the voice and body for effective singing.

“We cover a range of songs from ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, ‘Cabaret’ and ‘Rock Around the Clock’ as well as numerous other toe-tappers, all under the enthusiastic instruction and encouragement of Sally and Paul from Back Two.

“We have a cup of tea half-way through, and lots of laughs as we go along.

“Surprise yourself; come sing, laugh, and make new friends.”
