TO mark Compost Awareness Week, why not find out how to make use of the waste you produce at home by composting in your garden.

Through composting your garden waste and fruit and vegetable peelings you can reduce the amount of waste you produce and create a useful compost. The compost can then be added to the soil to help your plants grow and reduce the need to buy mulches, soil improvers and fertilisers.

To mark Compost Awareness Week a series of events are taking place across Cambridgeshire including Peckover House, Wisbech between noon and 5pm this Sunday, when master composters will be on hand to answer queries and the National Trust's Black Gold Team will show how composting in the community can be made easier with their help and advice. Normal admission prices apply.

Home composters are available through Fenland District Council, with a choice of two sizes; a 220 litre at £12 and a 330 litre at £16.

Payment can be made at the council's Fenland @ your service shops with the composters delivered to your door. For further information please contact 01354 654321.

Home composters, composting accessories and water butts are also available from Blackwall Ltd in conjunction with Cambridgeshire County Council, for further information contact Blackwall on 0800 316 4454 or visit www.getcomposting.com/cambs .

Following a successful event at the Asda store in Wisbech, Fenland Council will be holding a series of Home Composting Road Shows throughout the summer where home composters will be available for purchase, further information on dates and locations will appear in the local press.
