FACED with an angry crowd after backing his van into a parked car, Matthew Brownlow decided "discretion was the better part of valour" and walked away.
He left his van behind, and later tried to find the owner of the damaged car, Fenland magistrates heard.
Brownlow, 40, of Creek Road, March, admitted driving carelessly in March Road, Rings End, on July 1 last year. He was fined £100 with £43 costs, and three points were endorsed on his licence.
The accident happened when Brownlow was trying to find the home of a friend, solicitor Anita Waterman explained to Fenland magistrates.
"It was very late at night, people had been drinking and were very angry," she said. "He left his van then, but returned later and knocked on doors to find out who owned the car.
