Man jailed after beating up his partner and dragging her over a wall before stabbing a police car in Whittlesey

Alan Powe, 47, punched the victim in the face in a property in Windmill Street, Whittlesey, and then struck her several more times outside before dragging her over a brick wall.

She managed to escape and get back into the house where she and a mutual friend barricaded themselves in to wait for police.

DC Stu Taylor, who investigated, said: “Powe was in a rage when he arrived back at the property was thankfully prevented from inflicting any more serious injury by being locked outside.

“We take domestic violence very seriously and will do everything we can to bring offenders to justice.”

Powe was waving around the 14-inch hunting knife and when police arrived he stabbed the front grill of a police car.

After being challenged several times by officers armed with taser Powe eventually dropped the knife and was arrested.

On Thursday February 26, he appeared at Peterborough Crown Court and was jailed for six years after admitting seven charges at an earlier hearing. They were causing grievous bodily harm with intent, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, affray, assault by beating, and three counts of criminal damage.

The court heard that on the afternoon of November 7 last year, Powe, of Windmill Street, Whittlesey, had cooked dinner for his partner, brother and the mutual friend, at the latter’s house.

However, at about 6pm he had left, leaving his partner with the other two men.

He returned at about 9.45pm and banged on the front door. Once inside he assaulted the victim and launched a tirade of abuse at her as well as assaulting his brother.

The two men restrained him until he calmed down but he attacked his partner again, this time as she followed him out the house.
