A RUNNER from March has raised 550 for Cancer Research UK after completing two half-marathons in recent weeks.

Adam Pugh, a member of Thorney Running Club, completed the BUPA Great North Run before running in Peterborough’s Great Eastern Run.

He decided to raise money for the charity because him and his wife Jenny lost grandparents to cancer. Mrs Pugh’s father is currently on the road to recovery after a successful operation in his battle against the disease.

Mr Pugh said: “I’m delighted to have raised that amount and am really grateful for everyone’s support.

“If I had to single out one contribution I’d like to thank Ridgeons for sponsoring me 100.

“It’s the first time I’ve done the Great North Run and it was an amazing experience. It was like a massive festival the whole way round.

“I’m really happy to have completed both events but it’s really upsetting that two people died at the Peterborough run. It puts things into perspective.”

Mr Pugh was unable to beat his time in last year’s Great Eastern Run and crossed the line in one hour 41.37. He did however better his Great North Run time by exactly four minutes.
