There has been a 356 per cent increase in people using Manea train station this year, a council report has revealed.

A report which is due before full council on Thursday says, between April and June 2013, 301 journeys were made from the station.

In the same period this year, the number of journeys has shot up to 1,370.

The rise has been caused by the introduction of a two hourly train service at the station last December.

There were nine per cent more journeys between April and June this year than between January and March.

Manea is not the only station that has seen a surge in popularity - the number of journeys from March train station has gone up by five per cent.

Between April and June 2013, there were 59,173 journeys from the station, compared to 56,319 for the same period last year.

And the number of people stopping off at Whittlesey station has increased by 25 per cent (from 1,654 in April-June 2013 to 2,062 in April-June 2014).
