Manea woman, 74, and Beck Row teenager, 19, die in collision on the A142 Iretons Way at Mepal between Chatteris and Ely

A man and a woman who died in a collision in Mepal on Monday (February 27) have been named.

John Smith, 19, of Willow Park, Beck Row, Mildenhall was driving a Ford Fiesta van along the A142 Iretons Way at about 5pm when it was in collision with a Vauxhall Meriva. Sadly, Mr Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wendy Wheatley, 74, of Valentine Close, Manea was a passenger in the Vauxhall. She was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge but sadly died.

The driver of the Vauxhall, a man in his 70s, and a teenage passenger in the Fiesta suffered serious injuries and were taken to Addenbrooke’s.

A police spokesman said: “Anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the collision is asked to call the Road Policing Unit on 101.”
