AN AIR cadet from the March 1220 Squadron met Prince Phillip moments before receiving her Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award from a member of Britain’s Got Talent winners Diversity.

Alexa Ferguson travelled to the ceremony at St James’ Palace in London with warrant officer Tammy Curwen to pick up the award recognised as the world’s leading achievement award for young people.

The Cadet received her certificate from Jordan - one member of the 2008 winning dance group Diversity - before enjoying an inspirational talk from the group’s lead dancer Ashley Banjo.

“It was a very pleasant day and I felt honoured to have been given this opportunity to achieve the award,” said the cadet flight sergeant.

“I’d like to thank everyone that made this happen and I hope my participation in the award will put me ‘a step up from the rest’ later in life.”

Fellow 1220 Squadron members sergeant Tim Kightly and corporal Tom Ward are looking forward to their trips to London after they received confirmation that their gold awards have now been completed.
