MEMBERS of 1220 (March) Squadron Air Training Corps finally took to the skies after Christmas for the only time in 2010.
A combination of Icelandic volcanic ash and poor weather had meant that the group’s gliding slots had to be cancelled throughout the year.
Four cadets travelled to 611 Volunteer Gliding Squadron at Watton, three to make their first flights. Katie Dickson, Scott Goodall and Alex MacRae all took to the skies for the first time, however bad light meant that one cadet returned home without flying.
The cadets were taken to Watton by Flight Lieutenant Steve Johnson, a staff member at 1220. This was his last official duty with the March cadets. He has now taken command of 272 (Wisbech) Sqn.
