The male driver of a Vauxhall Corsa was arrested at 3.20pm today after a collision in March that ended with his vehicle wedged between a lamppost and a tree.
The incident happened outside Eastwood cemetery in Upwell Road and near the junction with Elwyn Road.
Police said they were called at 3.20pm shortly after the collision was reported to them.
It involved a blue Vauxhall Corsa and a black Mitsubishi Colt Mirage.
A police spokesman said: “The Corsa has hit the stationary Mitsubishi and then a tree.
“The male driver was arrested at scene on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs.”
Local resident Helen Cliss, who has lived in Upwell Road for 11 years, said: “This is not the first time something like this has happened.
“Drivers speed down here and put lives at risk.”
She felt that speed calming measures needed to put in place.
Mrs Cliss said her family had been affected over the years by collisions in the street and two of their vehicles had been written off.
The husband of the Mitsubishi owner said: “My wife’s car has been written off before. It could have been someone walking along the road with a push chair instead of the car in its place. People need to stop speeding and take more care.”
