An engineering firm from March has swapped their spanners and wrenches for whisks and wooden spoons to raise money for charity.

AD Sutton, on Norwoodside Bridge, is holding a week-long bake sale to raise money for the Stroke Association – a cause very close to the heart of sales advisor, Sarah Norman.

“My great uncle had a major stroke which landed him in hospital,” she said. “He then went to a care home where he was very well looked after until his passing earlier this month.

“Stroke affected my life again last year when my husband, Derick, had three strokes. Luckily, he was at work when they struck meaning he was able to get the medication needed within 90 minutes of having them.”

Derick was taken to hospital where doctors discovered blood clots on the back and side of his brain. They affected his balance, eyesight and speech, but thanks to the help of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn and the Stroke Association, he has recovered and recently returned to work.

“Derick’s recovery has been fantastic,” Sarah added. “He’s back at work, full-time, driving and even lifting some weights.”

AD Sutton is hoping to raise as much as possible as part of the charity’s ‘Give A Hand Week’, and is offering its customers a variety of cakes and sweet treats – as well as its usual car servicing and repairs.
