A family in March had a lucky escape last night after heavy winds caused a 30-foot tree to fall in their garden and miss their home – and the family rabbit hutch - by a matter of feet.

Storm Imogen has gripped the country over the past 24 hours with winds up to 60 miles per hour, and the Scott family, who live in Estover Road, were meters away from having some serious repair work to do after a tree smashed through their fence and into their garden.

Luckily for the Scotts, the tree fell just short of hitting their home – and narrowly missed the family’s rabbit hutch.

Mrs Scott said: “My daughters and I were getting ready for bed at around 11pm when one of them ran in and said ‘The tree has fallen down – it’s killed the rabbit!’.

“Luckily, it hadn’t hit the rabbit but it was quite a shock to see it laying there. It was literally feet away from hitting the house.”

Mrs Scott now says the tree will have to stay in her garden until Fenland District Council get back to her, as the felled tree was on public land.

“I phoned the council and they’ve recorded it,” she said. “But until we hear from them, it will have to stay in the garden.”
