A flower arranging club that has been going for 54 years has closed after members were unable to form a committee.
Sadly nobody wanted to take on the responsibility, said Noreen de Lozey, programme secretary.
“It is a growing trend among flower clubs - the latest speaker at March Flower Club said she had seen two other clubs close in recent months for the same reason,” said Mrs de Lozey.
“Sadly after 54 years the club has ceased to operate,” she said.
“Some of the club members are now in their 90s.
“As outgoing programme secretary I would like to thank all our previous members and many guests for their dedication to the club over the years. “I would like to thank the outgoing committee for their invaluable effort in trying to keep the club afloat over the past few years.
The March Flower Club has been in town meeting at the Trinity Church hall since 1962.
Their biggest displays recently were for their golden anniversary four years ago.
“We’re quite a small club with just 25 members, it is a very sad thing, but there’s nothing we can do,” she said.
