The March Food Bank was unexpectedly presented with a £700 donation from the local rotary club.
The money was raised at the March Rotary Club’s Christmas party in December at March Conservative Club.
Edible items were also donated, mainly coming from Sainsbury’s, Tesco and other donations.
Barbara Taylor, a local Lay Minister volunteering at March Food Bank, said: “We help approximately 40 local people a week, many of them in the younger age bracket.
“They are often referred to us by area agencies, G.P’s and Faith Groups, with some thirteen tonnes of food items distributed annually.
“The recipients exchange vouchers for products that suit their needs.”
The donation was presented to Barbara Taylor by president Don Morris, flanked by rotary club members and food bank voluntary helpers looking on.
The Rotary Club of March was formed in January 1956, and to this day, is still going strong.
Meetings are held every Monday, except Bank Holidays at the Conservative Club, Creek Road, from 7 pm.
Members and guests partake of a light meal prior to an invited speaker presenting an informative and often very entertaining presentation on a wide variety of subjects, local and international.
