A golf club is now in possession of a life-saving piece of equipment.
March Golf Club have been donated an automated external defibrillator (AED), which in the event of a cardiac arrest can make the difference between life and death, from the Norfolk and North Cambridgeshire Community Partnership.
Malcolm George, the club captain, received the defibrillator from community partnership manager Danny Daniels. The partnership has also provided training for all key staff at the club.
Mr George said: “we are very grateful to the community partnership and pleased to have this valuable piece of equipment available to our members and visitors to the club.
“Whilst we hope we never have to use it, it may one day be used to save someone’s life.”
Each year 100,000 people die from sudden cardiac arrest in the UK. CPR and early defibrillation with an AED can increase sudden cardiac arrest survival from five per cent to 50 per cent.
In August 2013, former Ryder Cup captain Bernard Gallacher collapsed during a dinner at a hotel on the outskirts of Aberdeen.
He had suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. Fortunately, the hotel had a defibrillator and he survived.
