March residents enjoyed a fright night to remember when they dared to visit a house on Wisbech Road this Halloween.

Tommy and Jo Kelly and their daughter Jessica adorned their home with mannequin style mummies, zombies and Frankenstein’s monster - as has been the tradition over the last six years - to raise more than £500 for a local school and charity.

However, this year zombie babies and clowns made an appearance for the first time along with some new witches.

“The whole event was audio visual as we had movies of ghosts and ghouls projected through the house windows, spooky music played and we had a smoke machine,” said Mr Kelly.

There was also a tombola and hotdogs as well as sweet treats for trick and treaters visiting. A total of £521 was raised and that number can only go up.

A post on the house’s social media said: “Fantastic effort and a massive thanks to all that helped, supported and donated.

“We imagine that Westwood Primary school are going to be super chuffed with this and it will go a long way to help with the great work they do.

“We will leave the display up until the weekend so please do come by for a look if you haven’t as yet and we will gratefully accept any further donations.”

Mr and Mrs Kelly were inspired to start decorating their house for Halloween after seeing a house in Bedford which was spectacularly dressed for Halloween.

“We like zombies and scary stuff and so were inspired to do something similar. Part of the fun is making the characters,” added Mr Kelly.

While the Kelly’s have donated funds raised to the charities Make a Wish, Eddie’s and Scotty’s Little Soldiers in the past, this year all funds raised are going to Westwood primary school which the couple’s daughter Jessica attends.

They said that they know it is because the school does a lot of good work and it’s local.

Reception and Year 1 pupils at Westwood school joined in the fun and held activities to raise funds to aid their learning experience at the school.

Children were also invited to dress up in Halloween themed costumes for the day and after school there was a number of activities to raise money including a cake stall, raffle, face painting and spooky games.
