A MARCH man met the Duke of Edinburgh on his 90th birthday at a Buckingham Palace reception celebrating Action on Hearing Loss’s centenary.

Action on Hearing Loss – formerly RNID – rewarded Andy Palmer for his outstanding contribution managing the charity’s customer services and information line with a place at the reception.

The event on Friday was hosted by The Duke of Edinburgh to commemorate the charity’s 100 years of supporting people with hearing loss.

Based at the charity’s premises in Orton Southgate, Mr Palmer’s work as the organisation’s national Customer Services and Helplines Manager has been recognised by his winning of the ‘Inspires Leadership’ staff award.

He manages the charity’s Information Line, which provides confidential and free information about deafness, hearing loss and tinnitus.

Mr Palmer, who is the secretary for the Peterborough and District Deaf Children’s Society, is the son of Catherine and Godfrey Palmer, the chairman of the Cambridgeshire Deaf Association and secretary for the March and District Deaf Club.

“Visiting Buckingham Palace and speaking with Prince Philip was a fantastic honour,” said Mr Palmer. “It was a memorable experience which will stay with me for the rest of my life.”
