March mum Carly Chaffe is appealing for information after her teenage son was knocked off his bike by a motorist who was allegedly trying to park in a bus lane.
Ben Ogden, 14, was left with an injury to his hand after a black VW Lupo reportedly reversed into him on Broad Street between Barclay’s and Domino’s on May 16.
The driver is alleged to have knocked the Neale Wade Academy student – who is 5ft 11 and has ginger hair - off his white, red and black Apollo mountain bike.
Miss Chaffe said: “The bike is a total write-off and his hand has been injured.
“The driver hit Ben’s front wheel, causing him to fall off and hit his hand where he landed. The front wheel was buckled and he had to walk the bike all the way home.
“All the driver did was say sorry, went to use the cash machine and then drove off.
“There was no duty of care. He had to walk the bike home from Broad Street right down to The Birches – it’s quite a long way, especially when you have hurt your hand as well.
“I would like something to be done because it isn’t fair that this driver has got away with it. It’s beyond a joke and I just think it’s out of order.
“Because I’m a single parent, I can’t just go to the shop and buy a brand new bike for him.
“I’m a bit lost for words, really, and just at a lost cause now – that this person has got away with doing what they’ve done.
“I’m quite gutted really, I tried to make that bike last until I could pick his new one up. But now he doesn’t have any.
“Ben now has to walk right up to Wisbech Road every day so he can get to school,” she added.
A police spokesman said: “We were called to Broad Street, March, at 3.30pm on Tuesday May 16 to reports of a collision between a bicycle and a car.
“If anyone has any information about the incident they should call police on 101.”
