POLICE in March are to trial doctors' surgery-style appointment sessions in a bid to provide a more effective service to the public.

Cambridgeshire Police Chief Constable Simon Parr is seeking ways to save money and improve operations at police stations and believes the system may come into effect in council offices if successful.

Mr Parr said: “We need to deal with non-emergency incidents in non-emergency times, so that when we are whizzing around in vehicles it is to a real emergency.

“I estimate we could see 10 people at a time to suit them in the time it currently takes us to visit three.

“Our message will be: ‘Come to the police station at a time to suit you and we will be able to serve you better.

“This will be a more tailored service for families and individuals.”

The other stations that will be part of the trial are; Thorpe Wood in Peterborough, Histon and Huntingdon.
