While learning about weddings, the reception class at Cavalry Primary School in March held a ceremony fit for the Duke and Duchess, inviting friends and family to the celebration.

Louise Wilson, class teacher, said: “We decided to hold our own wedding and spent the week preparing by making signs for the church, bunting, fascinators and crowns and counting our guests in twos.

“We wrote beautifully in special invitations and invited our parents and carers to come and join us on our special day.”

The children wore their finest outfits to school last Thursday (May 17), playing all parts in the wedding except the vicar, that was Reverend Andrew Smith’s job.

Mrs Wilson added: “A huge gathering of friends and family filled the hall as the reverend led a beautiful and heart-warming ceremony.

“After the exchanging of Haribo rings, the marriage certificate was signed and witnessed and the wedding party left the hall to a round of applause.

“During the reception that followed there was wedding cake, fizz (sparkling water) and the parents signed the guest books (the children’s learning journals).

“Mrs Stanforth and I were very proud of the children for their hard work in producing a great wedding and our thanks went to Reverend Andrew for a lovely ceremony and all our guests who took time to come and share in our big day.”
