Rail enthusiasts are invited to take a nostalgic walk down memory lane as March railway station celebrates its 130th anniversary.

On Saturday September 12 from 10am to 2pm, the station will become a hive of activity as people take a step back in time and celebrate the occasion.

Friends of March Railway Station (FORMS) is hosting the anniversary event, which includes a 1940s display, model railways, prize draws and children’s games.

The heritage rooms will also be open for people to visit and find out more about the station which has served the local community since 1885.

Adrian Sutterby, chairman of FORMS, said: “For more than a century, the station has connected people to the capital and we’re delighted to host this event which will pay tribute to the past 130 years.

“It’s important to keep history alive and we hope as many as possible can join us on the day.”

Councillor Simon King, Fenland District Council’s cabinet member responsible for transport, said: “It was at March station three years ago that we launched the Hereward Community Rail Partnership (CRP), with the support of Abellio Greater Anglia. That is a fine example of partnership between a local community and a rail company.

“So it’s great to be coming together again with the Friends to help celebrate the station’s rich history.

“It has played a vital part in the life of March and we hope that the work of the CRP and the Friends will help that continue for the next 130 years.”
