COLLEAGUES call him Mr Hairy but Jonathan Groves has become a real smoothie after a body wax which raised around 200 towards the cost of a cardiac monitor.

The senior branch manager of George James and Son, funeral directors, of March, was volunteered for the wax by funeral director Tamara Fulcher, after they decided to raise money for the monitor at the town’s Riverside Surgery.

On Saturday Mr Groves submitted to the waxing skills of Vicky Webb who gave her services free of charge. His lower legs, back and arm pits were soon silky smooth and a willing band of spectators gave donations to have the pleasure of tearing off a strip.

The waxing session was held at the home of Tamara’s mother, Audrey Hindle of Elm Road, March, and Mrs Hindle boosted the total amount raised by serving tea and slices of home-made cake.

Tamara said: “He was a bit sore afterwards but it was all for a good cause. We are planning other things to raise more money towards the monitor. A parachute jump has been mentioned and we are hoping to organise a children versus parents football match.”
