A GROUP of fundraisers will become postmen for the day to help out with a March primary school's Christmas card service.

The scheme has been so successful for the past couple of the years that they have decided to expand it this year to the wider public.

The All Saints Primary School has a delivery box and the service will be available until Friday.

The post will then be distributed to people’s houses by a team of volunteers,

Steph Spencer, member of the Friends of All Saints School, who raise funds for the school, came up with the idea two years ago.

She said: “There are six of us who deliver the post on foot or on a bike and we try to do it in one hit.

“Last year I would guess we delivered 400 letters and cards and it took us about 18 hours.”

Mrs Spencer believes the card service is a great way to raise funds for the school while helping the wider community.

She said: “Elderly people have told us it’s a wonderful idea and it benefits people who have difficulty getting to the postbox.

“Also, the 15p charge is a lot cheaper than paying for a stamp.”
