A 22 year old student from March had her work chosen to be showcased at London Fashion Week.
Aimee Spies, who studied a fashion knitwear degree course at Nottingham Trent University, created six pieces for the catwalk show in the capital which has been known to springboard the careers of some of the most famous fashion designers in the UK.
Aimee, who hopes to find design work with a high street store, said: “It was a real honour. To be part of such a prestigious event was amazing.”
The former Neale Wade student added: “I had so much positive feedback on the day from people who said they had never see anything like it before.”
Aimee’s collection was one of six chosen from 34 students on the fashion knitwear and knitted textile design course.
A further 18 students from other fashion courses at Nottingham Trent had their work chosen.
Her collection was based on skeletal patterned women’s knitwear, inspired by the film by Ridley Scott - the Alien prequel, Prometheus.
“The collection took a year to design, make and photograph, so it felt a bit like it took over life, but loved doing it,” she said.
Aimee studied A levels at Neale Wade and took a year foundation art course at the Isle Campus of the College of West Anglia before embarking on the four year course at Nottingham Trent.
In student holiday periods she helped fund her course by working at the March branch of Sainsbury’s.
Her proud parents run the Freedom Motorcycles shop in Mill View, March, and proud grandparents run the Bike Shop in Nene Parade.
