March is the capital of the Fens – for bad parking although Wisbech is top of the towns for littler.

Figures released this week by Fenland District Council show that in the past year their officers have issued 40 fixed penalty notices in March for parking offences but only two for litter.

But in Wisbech there have been 18 tickets issued for litter offences – but none for bad parking.

The figures will be presented to Monday’s meeting of the council overview and scrutiny committee.

Whittlesey residents turned out to be near perfect when it comes to dropping litter- with only one fixed penalty notice issued.

But the cleanest town, and with the most polite motorists, are assuredly all in Chatteris where not a single ticket was issued for litter or parking.

Chatteris did get on the council misdemeanour list for pets – one resident being issued a fixed penalty for not scooping up after their dog.

In Fenland villages, however, not a single parking offender, litter offence or pet miscreant could be found.

“Enforcement patrols in support of litter and dog fouling are important and actively change the behaviour of customers,” says the report.

“In areas where education campaigns were supported with high profile enforcement actions, dog fouling was found to reduce.”
