Hilda Quince is marking the occasion with a karaoke party at Jubilee Court care home, March.

The sprightly 102-year-old, who still loves to wear high heels, became a great, great grandmother in September following the birth of young Oliver.

Joining her on Sunday will be her two children Trevor and Jan, five grand children, 12 great grandchildren and her great, great grandson.

Mrs Quince was born in Leicester in 1911 but has lived in March for 80 years.

During the First World War, her father went away to Guildford to look after war horses.

In Leicester, she worked in a hosiery factory and was a senior chorister in the Salvation Army.

When she first moved to March, she did hard graft as a potato picker.

Together with her late husband Ernie, who died in 1982, she ran two March pubs - The Wagon and Horses on Whitemoor Road and the Prince of Wales on Station Road.

Later in life, the couple worked as caretakers at Neale-Wade Academy.

Jan Ayres, Hilda’s daughter, says her mother, who lived in Papworth Road until July, has a great appetite for life.

She said: “Hilda loves reading and is an avid newspaper reader, doing the crossword every day.

“She also loves going to the cinema, going out for meals and spending time with the family.

“Mum loves karaoke and wearing high heels.

“She is obsessed with St Mary’s Church (Westry), so the next benchmark for her will be its opening on April 1.”

Remarkably, Florence Fraser, the mother-in-law of Trevor Quince, is also still going strong, having celebrated her 100th birthday in Whittlesey in December.

Mrs Fraser has put her longevity down to a daily tot of whisky.
