Fifty-seven per cent of GCSE students at Marshland High School have achieved grade 4 and above in English and Maths.

For key subjects, like science, history and geography, 2018 is the first set of examination results for the new and more challenging GCSE qualifications.

It follows the introduction of the new qualifications in English and mathematics in 2017.

Craig Jansen, headteacher, said: “Marshland is delighted with yet another strong set of GCSE results.

“More of our students have achieved the higher grades this year than in previous years.

“We expect Marshland to be within the top 20 per cent of schools nationally for progress in English and maths.

“I would like to take this opportunity of congratulating our Year 11 students in achieving their GCSE examination results.

“With the support of our staff, they worked incredibly hard to gain the success we have seen today.

“It was a real delight to witness so many of our students celebrating their accomplishments.”

Abbie, a Year 11 student, said: “Prior to opening by results I was very anxious, however I achieved five 9’s and five 8’s at GCSE.

“I am delighted that I will be studying maths, biology and psychology at Springwood Sixth Form.”

Another student, Benas, added that he was “appreciative of the fantastic teaching and support Marshland provided, without this I would not have achieved the amazing results I have.”

Benas, who is aiming to study medicine at university, will be studying A-Level chemistry, biology and maths at Springwood Sixth Form.

Steve Cozen’s, chairman of governors, said: “A fantastic performance by our students and the school. We have a great deal to celebrate.”

Mr Jansen added: “I would like to take this opportunity of wishing all our students the very best as they embark on their Post-16 studies this September.”
