RECORD-BREAKING results were achieved by students at Marshland High School in West Walton - with an 11 per cent improvement over the past two years.

This year’s figures showed that 55 per cent of students attained five or more A*-C grades including English and maths. This is a six per cent up from last year’s result of 49 per cent and continues the trend of rapid improvement from 44 per cent in 2011.

The percentage of students attaining the English Baccalaureate also rose by nearly six percentage points, to just over 17 per cent.

All the students achieved at least one GCSE pass, and 96 per cent attained at least five GCSE passes.

Headteacher Elizabeth Dormor said: “We are thrilled that the number of students attaining the ‘gold standard’ of five or more A*-C including English and maths has improved so much again this year, as this is the standard that is so important in enabling students to get a job or a place on a further education course.”

Particularly high achieving students included: Jasmine Towler (2 A*s, 8 As, 1 B); Hannah Rand (11As); Ben Carter (1 A*, 7As, 2Bs); Peter Brown (1 A*, 6 As, 3 Bs, 1 C); Jonathan Lovell (7As, 4Bs); Emma Rudd (1 A*, 4 As, 6Bs); Matthew Ryan (1 A*, 5 As, 4 Bs, 1C); Emily Pilbeam (6 As, 3 Bs, 2 Cs) and Michael Smith (1 A, 8 Bs, 2 Cs).

Mrs Dormor said: “My congratulations go to all the students who have worked so hard to get these excellent and well-deserved results, and my thanks go to all the staff and parents who have supported them so well too.”
