A Fenland bowls club showed off its refurbished rinks to a former world champion on Friday. John Price, who won indoor singles and pairs world titles, officially opened the resurfaced rinks at Whittlesey Indoor Bowls Club by delivering the first bowl.

As well as renewing the club's five rinks, roof repairs have been carried out to the Station Road building and toilets for the disabled have been installed.

Work started in May after the club picked up a grant worth £58,750 from the People's Millions initiative run by Anglia TV, and took about two months to complete.

Alan Foster, secretary of Whittlesey Indoor Bowls Club, said: "John is coming back to do an evening with us, hopefully, at the end of October." The club, which has about 250 members, competes in the Cambs Seniors League for men and women, and holds internal tournaments. 3854
