THE Mayor of Wisbech took a break from her Rose Fair commitments on Saturday to present a plaque to the shop that won the town’s Diamond Jubilee shop window competition.

Councillor Viv MacRae handed over an engraved plaque to mother and daughter Joanne and Jennifer Symonds, who run Button Up & Stitch in Market Street with Joanne’s mother, Margaret Symonds.

The fabric and haberdashery shop also received a framed photograph of their winning window display from George Dunlop of the Vivien Fire Engine Trust, who had helped organise the competition.

Jennifer said: “We were thrilled to win the competition. We made a lot of the red, white and blue decorations for the window ourselves, including bunting and felt sandwiches.

“We will be displaying the plaque and the photograph in pride of place, so all our customers can see it.”
