Over the weekend of August 25/26 a story appeared on our website about the allowances received by James Palmer, the mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

The article in its original form wrongly stated the mayor would receive a rise of 11 per cent from the beginning of the next financial year. The information was based on our incorrect interpretation of a finance report to the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority of which Mayor Palmer is the chairman.

The mayor’s allowance is set by an independent panel and is not subject to review or amendment by the mayor or the combined authority and is fixed for his first two years in office.

The story failed to recognise the mayoralty costs included NHI contributions and failed to appreciate payments in the current year did not include the first six weeks of the financial year prior to Mayor Palmer taking office.

We appreciate the article was incorrect for this we unreservedly apologise.
