Double yellow lines are set to be introduced outside a Fenland school to tackle inconsiderate parking during drop-off and leaving times.
The traffic regulation order to extend double yellow lines on Church Road to outside Leverington Community Primary School is recommended for approval when it goes before Cambs County Council’s Highways and Community Infrastructure Committee next Tuesday (July 15).
The plans have generated some opposition - a statutory consultation led to three letters of objection and a petition signed by 34 people.
Objectors fear cars will now start using the nearby Sports and Social Club car park and said it would be better to put up no parking signs for 10am-2.30pm and 4-8.30pm.
But officers say the proposal will improve safety on Church Road and reduce congestion to ensure the free flow of traffic.
The proposal said: “Whilst it is likely that there will be some displacement of parking into adjacent streets, we are confident that the safety benefits of this proposal offset any nuisance caused by displayed parking.”
