TEENAGER Alexander Warren has been awarded a commemorative medal for carrying the 1948 Olympic torch between Walton Highway and Marshland High School.
Seventeen-year-old Alexander, a Level 2 Art and Design student from the Isle campus of the College of West Anglia, lives in Wisbech and was nominated for the torch honour by his church, St Mary’s, West Walton.
Alexander had to run approximately one mile in the company of two fellow runners. Although the torch event took place last month, modest Alexander only shared news of his historic run on the last day of the summer term.
Lecturer Alison Waring said: “Alexander only admitted his fame on the last day of term , as is often the way with this young man.”
