The Norwood Road residents won a combined prize of £240,000 when their postcode, PE15 8PX, was drawn as the winner in the People’s Postcode Lottery Street Prize.

John Searle, £30,000 winner, said: “It doesn’t get much better than having Jeff Brazier knock on my door with a cheque for £30,000.

“I’m medically retired from the military and have struggled to get around over the last few months. This win means I can buy an electric wheelchair and will really make life so much easier.

Also among the winners were Helen Jackson, who had only recently been made redundant, and Amy Rimmer who plans to use the windfall to get married to fiancé Jimmy Reynolds, who collected the cheque on her behalf.

The eighth winner wasn’t available to collect their cheque, however the prize money will be paid straight into their bank account.

Jeff Brazier, lottery ambassador, said: “It’s been my absolute pleasure to surprise our winners in March and I’m totally thrilled for everyone who received a cheque.

“There’s nothing better than seeing neighbours share the joy of winning together and I’m sure they’ll all have a great time spending their prize.”

A spokesman said: “With a minimum of 32 per cent from every ticket going to charity, players of People’s Postcode Lottery have now raised £310 million for over 4,000 good causes across Great Britain and internationally.

“One good cause local to our winners that has received funding from players is Deafblind UK. The group was awarded £15,000 last year to carry out urgent renovations at its assisted living site for deafblind people.”
