THE friends of Little Downham teenager Jack Ure are hoping to raise hundreds of pounds for charity by holding a memorial football match.

Ely College Sixth Form student Jack, 18, was killed in a three-vehicle collision on New River Bank, in Littleport, just hours after completing his final A-level exam on June 20.

His funeral was held at St Leonard’s Church in Little Downham last Friday and was attended by dozens of friends and family.

As a lasting tribute to popular Jack, his friends have organised a memorial football match, due to take place on July 18 at Ely City Football Club, in Downham Road.

All money raised will be donated to emergency medical charity Magpas.

Courtney Pettifor, who is behind the event, said: “The teams will be a Jack XI - a team of his best mates - against an Ely College XI - a team consisting of teachers that taught or knew Jack.”

Jack was renowned as an avid sportsman and turned his hand to a range of sports including football, tennis and boxing.

Courtney added: “Jack was such a lovely lad and I was privileged to play football with him and also be able to call him captain of the team I managed. I will never forget my first day at Downham Feoffees Primary School where he came up to me and said ‘I’ll be your best friend’, that sums him up really.

“He was loved by everyone and that will always remain the case. He will always be in my thoughts, my prayers and my heart.”
