Weekend opening is ending for the summer at the minor injuries unit at North Cambs Hospital in Wisbech.

The unit was open at weekends during the busy winter period but it has gone back to Monday to Friday opening now that the warmer weather is here.

Mike Passfield, Head of Nursing (Unplanned Care, Ely and the Fens), Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust, said: “It was only intended to open the unit at weekends during the busy winter period when services are under most pressure and we saw more than 600 people, but now that we are well into spring the normal opening hours will resume.

“People should still go to A&E for life threatening emergencies. For non-emergency medical help, or if you are unsure, contact NHS 111, or speak to your local pharmacy.”

The unit operates a walk-in service, no appointment is necessary. Opening times are Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 6pm.

Experienced and highly trained nurses and paramedics at the minor injuries unit will treat a wide range of problems that do not need a visit to A&E, such as wounds, bites, scalds, joint injuries, eye problems and minor head injuries with no loss of consciousness.·
