You may have noticed that the bus shelter on Broad Street in March has disappeared – today the Fenland District Council has revealed where it’s gone.
In 2017 a driver, believed to be drunk, crashed their car into the shelter causing some structural damage.
The council received no details of the driver to recover any repair costs and due to the age of the shelter, they say it was “more cost effective to replace it rather than repair it”.
One shop worker that looks at the shelter everyday said: “It looks much better without it there.
“They took it away last week and it was for maintenance, I think they should leave it like that.”
A spokesman for the council said: “The shelter was cordoned off and the seating removed for safety purposes until a replacement shelter was ready.
“We received a permit from highways authority Cambridgeshire County Council to carry out the necessary work.
“The old shelter was removed by our contractors last week, and the new one is due to be replaced this week.”
