MOTORISTS will be forced to find other parking spaces in many parts of March if proposals to put down extra double yellow lines go ahead.

County highways officials have drawn up a list of hot spots and are now asking residents for their views.

Hundreds of consultation letters have been sent out in a bid to tackle congestion and safety. The new restrictions, if approved, could come in later this year.

'No waiting at any time' restriction is planned for the following locations

- City Road, for most of its length, to enable better access for lorries using the lorry park.

- County Road, at the entrance and exit to Fenland Hall, at the High School Close junction, at the Cromwell Road junction (in an easterly direction 65 metres on both sides), the whole length of the link road between Hereward Hall, past All Saints Primary School to County Road.

- Creek Road, opposite the Conservative Club which the council believes will improve safety for people emerging from Sainsbury's car park. The supermarket chain will pay for the work, and it is proposed to install a 'right turn only' sign for traffic emerging from the car park into Creek Road.

- George Street, for its whole length, again to allow lorry movements.

- Norwood Road, from its Wisbech Road junction for about 140 metres in a northerly direction, to maintain visibility for traffic emerging from Maple Grove and Smiths Chase junctions.

- The Brewin Chase, at its junction with City Road to allow lorry movements and maintain visibility.

- Wisbech Road, at the Elliott Road and Dartford Road junctions, making it easier for traffic leaving Elliott Road and avoiding conflict between opposing traffic flows in Elliott Road.

The spokesman said: "If there are no objections then we have delegated powers to carry on and do the works. If there are objections or people have different ideas, it could go to area joint committee.
