ARSONISTS set fire to more than 100 tonnes of straw in Soham on Monday night.

Two fire engines from the town were called to open land at East Fen Drove at about 9.20pm following reports of a small fire.

When they arrived however, the blaze had spread and a third fire crew from Burwell was called to assist, while a farmer used a digger to separate the burning bails.

It took fire crews until 5am on Tuesday morning before the blaze was finally extinguished and one crew remained on scene throughout the morning to continuing damping down.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the blaze to contact them on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
