A SPEEDER caught driving at 100mph in a car with two illegal modifications has been banned from the road for 21 days and left with a court bill totalling 365.
The Volkswagen Golf being driven by Marc Jackson had a German-style number plate that was not reflective, and its side windows had been covered with a tinted film that stopped too much light.
Jackson, 20, of Fen View, Chatteris, admitted all three offences when he appeared before Fenland magistrates on Tuesday.
A police officer measured Jackson’s speed as he drove along the A141 at High Fen, Straight Drove, on July 11. He drove at 100mph over a distance of 322 metres when the limit was 60mph, said prosecutor Andrea Fawcett.
Jackson’s number plate was made of pressed metal, it had no British Standard mark and was not reflective, added Ms Fawcett.
The front nearside and offside windows allowed only 32 per cent of light through, when the legal requirement is 70 per cent.
Jackson told the court: “Basically I made a mistake, it was out of character for me.” He said the tint had been removed from the windows.
The self-employed labourer was fined 135 for speeding and 130 for using the car with illegal modifications. He must pay 85 costs and a 15 surcharge.
