MP Henry Bellingham says it is a disgrace that the Government is refusing to consider upgrading the A47 to a route of national importance.
The North-West Norfolk MP was speaking in the House of Commons during Transport Questions.
He asked Transport Minister Dr Stephen Ladyman when he next expected to meet representatives of local authorities in East Anglia to discuss improvements in trunk roads.
When told there were no plans, Mr Bellingham asked why the road had been downgraded from a route of national importance to one of just regional importance. He called for the minister to reverse the decision.
Mr Bellingham said: "It is an absolute disgrace that the minister is refusing to even consider upgrading the A47 from a route of regional importance to one of national importance.
