NEWLY elected MP for North East Cambridgeshire Stephen Barclay looked into the eyes of his constituency when he visited DW Optometrists in March.
Mr Barclay got to grips with key issues facing eye care professionals and patients during his trip to the practice on Elwyn Road.
He spoke with Optometrist Vikesh Measuria about the services available and also to six patients who explained how sight threatening conditions could have left them blind, if they had not been detected by their local Optometrist.
Also present, to offer further information, was Wendy Newsom, Chair of the Cambridgeshire Local Optometric Committee, March GP Dr. Mather and Anglia Community Eye Service Consultant Cliff Jakeman.
After the visit, Mr Barclay said: “I was astounded and very proud to learn about all the high quality eyecare services available at this local practice. “With 2 million people in the UK currently at risk of losing their sight, of which half is preventable, I would strongly encourage all of my constituents to consult an Optometrist for regular eye examinations, more so for a health screen if not anything else.
“The range of free NHS services available to them is extensive. The majority of patients I met during my visit told me how their eyesight had been saved as a result of having their eyes examined at DW Harrison Optometrists.”
