MP Steve Barclay has been out and about rewarding the region’s youngsters for delving into the world of books.
Mr Barclay has championed the Reading Agency’s Read to Succeed campaign, and visited Whittlesey library alongside Mayor of Whittlesey, Councillor Alex Miscandlon, to hand out certificates to children who had completed the challenge and read six books over the summer months.
He said: “The Summer Reading Challenge could not exist without superb student volunteers, such as Jade Broughton and Sky Sawyn, both from Sir Harry Smith Community College.
“I hope that both the student volunteers and the children who completed the challenge enjoyed themselves and will take part again next summer.”
The Read to Succeed campaign seeks to raise donations of new books from residents across North East Cambridgeshire. Every year 4 pupil will receive a new book, which in turn links to a host of programmes being run by local libraries.
