A trip to Cadbury World was a popular guide leader’s final assignment before she called it a day after 20 years of volunteering.
Avril Squire, of Chatteris, has been with the 1st Chatteris Guides since 2006 and 1st Chatteris Senior Section since the group started in 2013.
She has also worked with Brownie, Guide and Senior Section units in other areas of Cambridgeshire and Leicestershire.
The girls from 1st Chatteris Guides and 1st Chatteris Senior Section were joined by the Chatteris District Rainbow unit on a trip to Cadbury World, which was her last day trip with the groups.
She said: “I have been involved in Guiding for 28 years since joining as a Brownie. It has helped me to develop skills and provided me with a wide range of opportunities I could have never have imagined.
“I will be very sad to leave both groups but go away with so many memories. In particular I will never forget watching fireworks with 1,400 members of the county at our centenary launch event.”
For the Senior Section group to keep running a new leader will have to be found.
Anyone interested in volunteering a few hours of their time each week should contact Claire Simms, Chatteris District Commissioner, at the thebeardeddragon30@hotmail.com.
