A WOMAN screamed in terror as a robber grabbed her from behind and put his hand over her mouth as she walked home with her three year old daughter.
The attempted mugging took place yesterday as the 33-year-old woman was pushing her daughter in a pushchair along Badgeney Road, March, shortly after 1pm.
Police say the woman had earlier realised she was being followed and slowed down to make a call on her mobile phone, allowing him to pass.
PC James Malinowski said: “The victim was approaching the Co-op and speeded up her walk but the man approached from behind, put his hand over her mouth and tried to grab her handbag.
“She managed to scream and he ran off empty handed along Asplin Avenue.”
The spokesman said the victim was not seriously injured but was left shocked and shaken.
The offender is described as white, 19 to 20, wearing a grey hooded top with blue trim on the hood and sleeves, grey jogging bottoms with blue trims, and white and blue Nike Air Max trainers.
PC Malinowski said: “This was a scary ordeal for the victim who bravely managed to hold onto her handbag.
“I am appealing for anyone who saw this man in the area or has any information about who he might be to contact police.”
Anyone with information should contact PC Malinowski on 0345 456 456 4, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111
